The Wire Season 4 comes out very soon. Damn...I need my fix.

There are lots of good shows on t.v....many that are very entertaining, and a few that constitute meaningful art.

The Wire is the only one that is all of those things AND more. The writing is superb, the characters are interesting, the dialogue is crisp. The plots are gripping, and the performances are outstanding. But, more than that, watching the Wire actually teaches you something. At least it does if you didn't grow up in the ghetto. It may not be reality, but it's as close as pop culture is going to get to showing what urban problems and racial segregation mean in this country.
