St. Patrick...the patron saint of alcohol
Just had our St. Patty's party here at what I've decided to call The House of Forlorn Destiny. I have no idea what that means. It was a rockin good time with some yummy eats.
Trying to get motivated to start on a research project. I want to look at whether or not young evangelicals are expanding their issue platforms beyond abortion and gay marriage to include poverty reduction, equality, and environmentalism. There's been some talk to that effect in the media, so I want to look into that. I might actually do some primary research! EEGAD! Scary! We'll see how hard it is to use the General Social Survey. Not real sophisticated analysis or anything, but it's my first time, so i figured I'd go small. Unlike the first time I had sex with a Yak. In for a penny, in for a pound!
I'm leaning toward dropping out of the program here. Academia has some perks, but one thing that sucks about it is that free time isn't really free. Don't get me wrong...I spend a lot of time NOT doing work. But, it's time where I SHOULD be doing work, so instead of doing something meaningful like reading a book, or writing a story, or going to a concert, or writing a song, I putz around on the internet or eat a snack or something. With a regular job, when I'm not at work, my time is really mine. I think that might be important for my mental health. I haven't decided yet, though. It's a pretty tough call. I still think being a professor would be a good gig. It's just a 10 year road until I'd even be up for tenure, so, you know, that's a long, uncertain road filled with a lot of stress and poverty. I think the Leprechaun needs to appear and give me a wish. I would wish for clarity on my car...no..no, I'd probably wish for infinite candy bars. Yeah. Definitely infinite candy bars.

A person that works with me says evangelical is a word in your country for mentally retarded. If so I think it nice that they care about whale environment and stuffs.
