Farmers in the Dell

We've just about got the new garden ready to plant up at the ranch. We're going from about a quarter acre to a 1 acre. It's like right on the line between gardening and farming, which makes it kind of hard to plan.

We're using the acequia system to irrigate the garden. The acequia is a system of run-off ditches, with irrigation time allocated to folks in the community based on the amount of land they own. The best part is that the head of the acequia system in a community is called the "Mayor Domo." Doesn't that sound like something from Star Wars?

We have to figure out how to irrigate it without taking off all the topsoil and washing away our seeds. We're gonna drip-irrigate part of the garden, and we're gonna flood irrigate part of it. For the flood irrigation, we're trying to make level furrows that will hold the water without washing everything down the mountain.
