In Defense of Video Games

Video games: what trash!

A huge investment in time whose only purpose is to impart pleasure through the completion of difficult yet arbitrary tasks that have no ultimate impact on the future.

What a stupid thing to do!

Not like REAL life, which is...well...um...pretty much the attempt to derive fulfillment through the completion of arbitrarily chosen projects that will ultimately be eradicated by the steady march of time.

Shit..maybe video games aren't so bad after all.

Maybe they train people to dedicate themselves to their work. To find fulfillment in the completion of projects. To persist in the face of obstacles. To not be bothered by the fact that their work probably won't mean anything to anybody in 100 years.

Yes...video games...they are existentialist training par excellance.
