Wire in the Blood Review

I recently caved in and rejoined netflix, mostly for the benefit of their streaming on-demand videos. I stumbled on a British cop show called Wire in the Blood (i'm halfway through season 5). This is my review of the show.

The basic premise is that, in a fictional mid-size British city, a local psychology professor, Tony Hill, helps the cops catch serial killers. If you ever saw the Robbie Coltrane vehicle, Cracker, just imagine that, but with a different guy.

Ok, so how is it?

It's pretty good, if you can get over the fact that this small English city is fucking crawling with serial killers in every nook and cranny!! This has got to be the most fucked up place on earth. It must be the new Sunnydale, located directly over top the Hellmouth (that's a Buffy allusion, motherfuckers!)

Seriously...every goddamn episode some nutcase goes on a sadistic killing spree! If there were ONE serial killer in my town, I think I'd get pretty goddamn freaked out! But they might as well set up a fuckin Union in ol' Bradfield. Psycho Killers Local 666. For fuck's sake, DO NOT BY ANY MEANS TAKE A VACATION TO THIS GODDAMN CITY!!! YOUR GENITALS WILL ALMOST CERTAINLY BE REMOVED WITH A CHEESE GRATER!!

If you can get passed this ridiculousness, it's a pretty well-made show. If you want a realistic cop show, watch the Wire. But, if you like silly cop shows about catching serial killers, this is way better than Law and Order SVU. I also prefer it to Dexter, though they are very different stylistically.

You know those Brits...even if it's a preposterous set up, it's gonna be well written and well acted. So, watch it if you like stories about killers. Also watch Cracker...it was better, but shorter lived.
