Offendedness: The Most Useless Emotion
Being offended is a useless emotion. If somebody meant to offend you, then your being offended is exactly the outcome they were trying to achieve. Congratulations, they win! If somebody was not trying to offend you, then they said something because they believed it to be true. To them, it makes no sense that you were offended by the truth. The truth is neither offensive nor inoffensive; it just is. While they may have said something untrue, the proper response to somebody hearing something untrue is to correct the misunderstanding, not "be offended."
Erego, claiming that a statement is "offensive" is totally pointless. It's either true, or it's not true. If it's not true, either take the time to explain why it isn't true, or ignore it and go about your business. If it is true, then you need to accept that your revulsion at the truth is your problem, not anybody else's.
